To reduce pain and prevent swelling, it’s crucial to cool the area as soon as possible. Applying an ice pack wrapped in a cloth for 15-20 minutes at a time helps to constrict blood vessels and reduce blood flow to the affected area, which in turn minimizes discomfort and swelling. Repeat this process several times a day for the first 48 hours after the injury.
Additionally, elevating the bruised area can further help to decrease swelling. If the bruise is severe, or if you experience unusual symptoms such as numbness, persistent pain, or difficulty moving the affected area, seek medical attention promptly to rule out more serious injuries. Properly managing a bruise can help accelerate the healing process and prevent further complications.
