Did you know? – Signs of shock

Did you know?: that a pale complexion, cold and clammy skin, and anxiety can all be signs of a person in shock?

If someone is in shock, call 911 immediately, as shock is a life-threatening condition that requires urgent medical attention. Lay the person flat on their back and, if there are no injuries to the head, neck, back, or legs, raise their legs about 12 inches to improve blood flow to vital organs. Keep the person warm by covering them with a blanket or coat, but ensure they do not overheat. Stay calm and speak reassuringly to the person, as anxiety can worsen the symptoms.

Do not give the person anything to eat or drink, as this can increase the risk of choking and cause complications if surgery is needed. Continuously monitor the person’s breathing and pulse, and be alert for signs of deterioration. If the person stops breathing or has no pulse, begin CPR immediately. Also, treat any visible injuries by applying direct pressure to bleeding wounds.

By following these steps, you can help stabilize the person’s condition until professional medical help arrives.
