During the lessons, questions about the liability of the first aider are often raised. The likelihood that a first aider will be legally held accountable for their assistance, or even more so that they will have to appear in criminal court, is extremely low.
However, two legal domains are relevant for the first aider: criminal law and civil law. Criminal law deals with offenses and crimes (the latter being the most serious). Civil law, on the other hand, assesses whether someone has caused harm to another and whether they should be held (financially) responsible for it. A first aider could potentially be faced with this, although the likelihood in practice is very small.
