What is a Lotus victim?

To make training as realistic as possible, first aid courses and training sessions often involve the use of “Lotus victims.” Since it’s not possible to train based on actual accidents, simulated accidents are created during these courses and training sessions. An individual, referred to as the “Lotus victim,” takes on the role of a casualty and portrays the condition or injury as realistically as possible. The fabricated or simulated injuries they have are often indistinguishable from real injuries. The National Training Institute for Victim Support certifies these individuals (originally established under The Oranje Kruis but organized independently since 2005).
